History

Abel Tendekayi Muzorewa is an experienced clergyman and Christian leader of international repute. Bishop Muzorewa was born in 1925 at Old Mutare Mission Hospital in Zimbabwe. He received a diploma in theology from the Old Mutare Biblical Institute in Zimbabwe,

1925

Graduated in the USA from Fayette Methodist College, Missouri with a BA in religion and philosophy, and Scarritt College, Tennessee, with a Masters of Arts in Christian Education. In addition, he has been conferred with several honorary doctorates from educational institutions in the USA, including the following: Doctor of Human Letters from Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa; Doctor of Laws from Mount Union College, Canton, Ohio; and Doctor of Divinity from Garret Evangelical Seminary, Evanston Illinois.

1950

The United Nations honored him as a Human Rights recipient of the Prizes in Leadership for his nonviolent struggle for justice and freedom for the oppressed peoples of Zimbabwe. The bishop became the leader of the African National Council (ANC), which brought all feuding nationalist parties together against British colonialism in Southern Africa, including Zimbabwe.

1973

Pope John II honored Bishop Muzorewa, in the same year, with the Medal of Peace for his inimitable role in the fight for justice and peace in Zimbabwe and indeed the African continent. Subsequently, this liberation movement led him to become the first black Prime Minister of Zimbabwe. Renowned magazine editors commented on him as one of the eleven living spiritual giants. After an illustrious service in the ministry of God (United Methodist Church) as pastor, ecumenical Youth Secretary, Bishop, and Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, the Bishop is retired but not tired.

1973

October 10th, 2024 - ZimPi (The Zimbabwe Peace Initiative) led by Senator Holland who has been leading the national healing, reconciliation and integration program, collaborated with the second republic in the recognition of Bishop A.T. Muzorewa's contribution to the nation of Zimbabwe. The event was well attended by many dignitaries, Zimbabwean government officials and viewed worldwide. The Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Hon. Monica Mutsvangwa, joined the Muzorewa family in honoring Bishop Muzorewa's National Contribution,

His called the Bishop A. T. Muzorewa Evangelism Foundation continues the work that he began, supported, and believed in. The foundation's engagements and partnerships all over the world continue his illustrious service in the ministry of God.
